Order of Activities for the Children’s Church Service
Below are the guidelines we plan on following. They are not hard and fast rules but we are hoping all the volunteers can stick to the same routine as much as possible so the kids know what is expected of them. We would also prefer to have 2 volunteers per service. · We would like to have at least one visual aid and/or activity for each week just to help keep the kids’ interest and get them excited about the lessons. If you are having trouble coming up with something, please contact Jill or Alisa and they will help you.· Try to pick one short verse from the week’s reading for the kids to memorize. One of the jobs of the liturgist is to read this verse to the group and then we try and have the group repeat it.· We will have the binder with the weekly handouts in the narthex area. Please take out your weeks’ sheets and run copies. If you need this done during the hours when there is no one in the office, please contact Jill or Alisa and they will get copies for you.· Try to have one adult sit halfway up the center aisle during Children’s Moments and meet the kids before they start to run up the aisle.· Before taking them downstairs, ask if anyone needs to go to the bathroom and remind them that we will not be using the bathroom downstairs. The use of the bathroom in the toddler room has caused too much trouble in the past so we are not allowing it unless it is an honest emergency.· If there are kids that need to go to the bathroom before going downstairs, have one person take the rest of the group downstairs to get seated and signed up for jobs.· There is a job chart for both services and we are just going to try and be as fair as possible when assigning jobs. This may be a little difficult as some of the attendance is sporadic but just do the best you can.· Try to remind them before they go back into the sanctuary to their seat that they need to walk and be quiet so they don’t disrupt the service.· We are planning on using the 1-2-3 magic system for discipline. It’s used at the grade school in some of the younger grades so hopefully many of them will be familiar with it. The first time they misbehave you say, "That’s one." The second time you say, "That’s two." The third time you say, "That’s three, you need to go back upstairs" and have one adult take them back up to their parent/grandparent/etc. If we are consistent and they know what to expect and that we mean business hopefully any issues will be kept to a minimum.· If you have any questions please contact Jill or Alisa and they will gladly help you out!Thank you so very much for your help!
